15 years professional experience in policy research, education, and advocacy for families affected by serious and persistent mental illness. Responsible for development of “Reaching Out” Early Psychosis Intervention program, now used across Canada.
Successfully lobbied for:
- Changes to BC’s Mental Health Act to help families access medical treatment for their ill relatives
- Use of risperidone and quetiapine as first-line medications for people with schizophrenia
- Police and government support of Taser technology for non-lethal police intervention
Previous to joining BCSS as Policy & Communications Director in January 1995, lived and worked in Montreal as a writer, editor, and translator.
