Although mental illness can occur at any age, it most commonly emerges in late adolescence to early adult years.

Health Canada research suggests mental illnesses result from a complex interaction between genetic, biological, personality and environmental factors.

Included in these illnesses are mood disorders, such as depression, bipolar disorders, and psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia.

If your teen has mental health difficulties, whether or not they have been formally diagnosed, feel welcome to attend the B.C. Schizophrenia Society’s Care and Share meeting.

David Somers will discuss The Challenges of Working With Teens With Persistent Psychiatric Disorders. He is the co-ordinator of the Adolescent Outreach Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox.

This presentation will be held at Eureka Clubhouse at 280 Fourth St. on Monday at 7 p.m.

    For more information, call 338-4121.
