2007-2008 Annual Report
Presidents Message: DAVE HALIKOWSKI
For 26 years, the major purpose of the BC Schizophrenia Society has been to support families coping with schizophrenia and other psychosis-related illness.
In 2006, members and provincial board directors began looking at how we could improve services to families and communities throughout the province. Over the next two years, we sought input through our branches from many hundreds of individual members. The process was by definition inclusive, and participation rate in our comprehensive study was exceptionally high – 74%. Individual responses were enthusiastic, thoughtful and passionate.
As we continued to progress, your participation allowed us to solidify and formally adopt our core values and hopes for the future, with 83% voting in favour. It also helped us strengthen communications between ourselves and with our community partners and supporters so that as an organization we can reflect the real needs, hopes and dreams of the families we serve.
My sincere thanks to each and every one of you who have participated in this remarkable journey. Special thanks as well to BCSS staff whose dedicated efforts help keep us on track, and to all those who support us as we continue to move forward towards improving the lives of all people with mental illness and their families.
