Reaching Families Project
In partnership with BC Partners for Mental Health and Addictions Information, the Reaching Families Project provides assertive outreach and virtual support / online support services to family members of persons with a mental illness throughout BC.
The project has three main components:
- Online family support groups: www.support.bcss.org
- A multi-agency calendar of family support and education events in BCÂ
This calendar is displayed live on several websites using a simple technology (BCSS, HereToHelp, Kelty Resource Centre). This live lisiting of up to date family support events can be displayed by other organizations or services wishing to help families find the support they need, with minimal web setup and no maintenance. Contact the coordinator at onlinesupport@bcss.org for details. - Monthly resource e-newsletters for Family Members, for Mental Health Professionals looking for resources to refer family members to, and for School Teachers / Educators looking for family resources. www.elists.bcss.org
These tools help organizations serving family members get the word out about resources and services quickly, effectively and inexpensively. The rationale for the services is based on the following literature review and research into best practices for reaching families.
