The British Columbia Schizophrenia Society has a vision where those affected by schizophrenia and psychosis receive excellent treatment and services and are accepted and included in their communities. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for those affected by schizophrenia and psychosis through education, support, public policy and research. Founded in 1982, BCSS is a charitable society with a head office in Vancouver, BC.


The Regional educator works remotely within a multi-person team within the Vancouver Coastal Health region and reports to the Regional Manager.  Provides information and resources for family members dealing with serious mental illness including schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, anxiety disorders, major depression, and others…Acts as a liaison between families and the mental health system. Organizes and facilitates workshops and education programs for families and the public, including Aboriginal communities


  • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline or degree equivalent
  • Experience with delivering programs, teaching/facilitating, working with families in a professional support role (i.e. social work, counselling, community education, etc.)
  • Experience with community outreach work (i.e. meeting clients/colleagues in approved community settings)
  • Knowledge and experience in writing reports.
  • Excellent professional oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience with Trauma Informed Practice
  • Knowledge of the BC mental health system, and importance of building positive working relationships within systems
  • Ability to work within a team, and leadership amongst your peers
  • Ability to work in a community/outreach capacity in both Vancouver and Sunshine Coast communities
  • Including First Nations bands, Metis organizations, and Friendship Centres
  • Demonstration of cultural and spiritual sensitivity
  • Knowledge of the importance of anti-psychotic medications
  • Knowledge of the importance of family members being part of the care team


  • Valid BC Drivers license and reliable vehicle.
  • Current criminal record check.
  • Confirmation of completion of post-secondary education
