Family Peer Support – A new program of the BCSS Victoria Branch

The goal of Peer Support is to provide an empathic connection with someone who has experienced mental illness in their family.

Family Peer Support Offers:

  • Trained, knowledgeable workers;
  • One-on-one matching with a trained Family Peer Support Worker for 1-10 meetings;
  • Practical suggestions and ideas;
  • Hope, empathy, support, validation and understanding;
  • Information about the illness and the recovery phase;
  • Confidential mentoring with people who can relate;
  • Information on resources and services in our community;
  • Confidential, non-judgemental interaction;
  • Emphasis on self-care, stress management and personal awareness.

Family Peer Support does Not offer:

  • Crisis Intervention
  • 24 Hour support
  • Professional Counselling
  • Family Mediation
  • A magical solution

The self-referred person will have one-on-one contact with their peer support worker for 1-10 meetings for approximately one hour per week.

Meetings are arranged at mutually agreed upon times and can be by phone or in person. Meeting times are flexible.
