<p>On Saturday, May 3rd, families are invited to come spend the day in Vancouver to hear a variety of educational presentations on serious mental illnesses, concurrent disorders, psychosocial rehabilitation and support for families and consumers. The conference, which has sold out for the last two years, will this year be held in the new Paetzhold Education Centre at Vancouver General Hospital. <p>The Mood Disorders Association of BC is holding an Education Evening on Thursday, March 20, 7:00 pm, at Sunrise Hall, 1950 Windermere St, Vancouver.</p>
<p>Barry Shainbaum, a professional speaker from Toronto, will be giving a talk entitled: &#8220;Overcoming Bipolar Disorder, How I Transformed My Life.&#8221; Barry chronicles, in detail, his journey through the mental health system from his first breakdown at age 18, bipolar diagnosis at 22, followed by years of despair, and the risk of suicide. From being enmeshed in psychiatric boarding houses and the justice system, Barry shares how hope finally grew from despair. He makes recommendations on how to make the system work better, and how to save precious lives.</p>

Dr. Termansen will present a film: &#8220;Not Just a Bad Day: Living with Bipolar Disorder,&#8221; showing the lives of three separate individuals living under the shadow of bipolar disorder (aka manic depression), a complex mental illness marked by significant disturbances in mood. A post-screening discussion by Dr. Termansen will follow.</p>
