Family Support Online
Caring about someone with a mental illness can be hard at times. When it is, we're here to help. You can call one of our 20 local coordinators, take a free Strengthening Families Together Course, or check out local support groups (see list at right).
Support groups can be a great way to remember that you're not alone and learn about local services and how to access them.
Online Support
Can't get to a support group in your area? Come and join the discussion online at www.support.bcss.org The support groups are easy to use and available when you need them. A BCSS coordinator facilitates the discussion and is there to answer your questions and help you find resources and information you need. There are separate groups for sisters and brothers or adult children of persons with a mental illness to talk about shared experiences.
Looking for a way to give back?
Come to the online support group. Most people attend when they are in crisis, but experienced family members can help provide a richer experience by responding to questions and welcoming newcomers.
Questions
If you have any questions about the support groups or need help getting started, please email the coordinator at onlinesupport@bcss.org
BCSS on Facebook and Twitter
Are you on Facebook? Did you know you can become a fan of the BC Schizophrenia Society on Facebook now?
Becoming a fan means you will get periodic status updates in your news feed when new information is posted on the BCSS website or we have news to share.
Spread the word that hope and help are available
When you become a fan on facebook you get to support BCSS by letting your friends know you’re a supporter, which helps us spread the word about services that families in need of support may not yet know about. It also helps reduce stigma, by allowing people to associate real people with real sources of help.
Youth Early Psychosis Intervention
We also have a fan page for the ReachOut Psychosis High School tour that you can see at www.reachoutpsychosis.com
