Hello!

I hope this finds you well and anticipating spring, which is just around the corner! Isn't it nice to see the longer days already, now that the clocks have "sprung forward?"

There are several exciting events coming up and this newsletter is to serve as a reminder to mark these special dates on your calendar!

LATE NOTICE BUT IMPORTANT

If you are concerned about the relocation and restructuring of the UBC EPI program, please try to attend a meeting today, Tuesday, March 10th, at 5 pm, with other concerned family members and with Lorna Howes, Director of Mental Health Services for Vancouver Acute and Community Services and Laura Hansen, Director of EPI. This is the last opportunity to express concerns about this upcoming move. Meeting is at 5 pm at 520 West 6th Avenue, Room 202.

 

CONCURRENT DISORDERS- ITS IMPACT ON FAMILIES, TREATMENT, AND RESOURCES

Join the Vancouver/Richmond Branch of BCSS, on Tuesday, March 17th, at 7 pm, at Coast Foundation, 293 East 11th Avenue, Vancouver, for a presentation by:

Lori Rock, the Youth and Family Clinician at the Centre for Concurrent Disorders; Lori will discuss the work she does at the Centre, including the parenting group she offers.

Please join us for an interesting discussion- coffee and treats are served. Come out and learn more about this important topic. 

VANCOUVER SUPPORT GROUP

A reminder that the newly formed Vancouver Support Group for family members and friends of those living with a mental health diagnosis will be meeting at Raven Song, 2450 Ontario Street (at W 8th) from 6:30 - 8:30 pm, Monday, March 23rd (fourth Monday of each month). 4TH ANNUAL FAMILY CONFERENCE: FAMILY INVOLVEMENT IN THE MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM

Working Together to Educate Families

Saturday, May 2, 2009 at VGH, Paetzhold Theatre, 899 West 12th Avenue

from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Join other family members, friends, consumers, professionals and anyone interested in the issues of mental illness, recovery, research, and hope for this special one day conference.

Keynote speakers will be Dr. Jon Fleming, UBC Dept of Psychiatry Training the Next Generation of Psychiatrists  and Lorna Howes, Director of Mental Health Services for Vancouver Acute and Community Planning for the Future of Mental Health Services

Workshops include: Living Well with Mood Disorder, Advocacy: Making it Work, Meeting the Needs of Children and Youth, Supported Education, Multicultural Perspectives, and Stories of Recovery
