Hello Everyone!

I hope you enjoyed your long weekend! This is a brief reminder of some interesting events coming up soon!

Dr. Phillip Long, Tuesday, April 21st, from 7 - 9 pm; come and listen to Dr. Phillip Long, a well-known Vancouver psychiatrist, talk about his insights on how to improve the social functioning of individuals with severe mental illness. Dr. Long is joined by a panel of clients for this interesting discussion.

Location: St James Community Square, 3214 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver. Free admission. No need to preregister!

 

4th Annual Family Conference: Family Involvement in the Mental Health System

Saturday, May 2, from 8:30 am to 4 pm, at Vancouver General Hospital, Paetzhold Theatre, 899 West 12th Avenue, in Vancouver.

Register now! Save a spot by emailing familyconference4@gmail.com This will reserve a place for you; pay, by bringing cash the day of the conference- 30.00 for families, 25.00 for individuals, and 10.00 for low income.

Hear Dr. Jon Fleming, from UBC Dept of Psychiatry, talk about Training the Next Generation of Psychiatrists  and Lorna Howes, Director of Mental Health Services, Vancouver Acute and Community present on Planning for the Future of Mental Health Services.

There will also be a family panel presentation, and several afternoon sessions to choose from, on topics such as stories of recovery, meeting the needs of children and youth with serious mental illness, advocacy, living well with a mood disorder, multicultural perspectives on the family experience, and supported education.

Plan to attend a great day full of information, education, display tables from community agencies, and many opportunities to meet and talk to others.

Vancouver Family Support Group, offered by BCSS- Tuesday, April 27th, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Raven Song Community Health Centre, 2450 Ontario Street (at W8th Avenue). Join family members and friends of loved ones who have a serious mental illness for support, encouragement, and a chance to listen and share.
