Last month, Dr. John Gray was invited to present to the Special Committee on Reforming the Police Act on behalf of the BC Schizophrenia Society. To prepare for this, Dr. Gray and BCSS interviewed Regional Educators and families who had needed police to respond to an individual’s mental health distress to learn about their experiences with police and mental health teams.

Sometimes, families and their loved ones who live with mental illness need police support. BCSS is urging the Special Committee on Police Reform to find ways to engage and expand coordinated services while maintaining mental health legislation essential to the well-being of some of the most vulnerable individuals in our province.
