‘Insanity: The Mental Health Crisis’ is an autobiographical documentary about director Wendy Hill-Tout’s experience navigating her brother Bruce’s schizophrenia and his subsequent disappearance 25 years ago. This film details the experience of her own family as well as others as they struggle to navigate Canada’s mental health system. Hill-Tout interviews family members, activists, and front-line workers to explore how the justice and healthcare systems could provide additional support for these vulnerable communities.

‘Insanity: The Mental Health Crisis’ was screened at select theatres nationwide last year, and we are very excited to screen it on such an important awareness day. The event will open to the public at 12:00 pm as a free educational opportunity that people must register for to attend. The opening remarks and screening of the documentary will not be recorded; however, the panel discussion at the end will be recorded so we can share it with our members and stakeholders.

The event will begin at 12:00 pm and start with commentary on the partnership between the province and BCSS, and discuss how we can bridge the gap between families and the resources available in their communities.
