Bio

Danita Senf as the Vancouver Island Regional Manager, where she leads a team of dedicated educators to provide direct family support, education and services to families across Vancouver Island affected by severe and persistent mental illness.

Danita joined the BCSS team in November of 2008 after experiencing the challenges of dealing with the mental health system firsthand. When her son was 17, he was inaccurately diagnosed with schizophrenia and she faced the “frightening, bewildering, frustrating situations and stigma” of the mental health system while supporting and advocating for her son. Danita empathizes with the many families whose lives have been touched by mental illness and uses her educational background in psychology and sociology to help inform her work with families.

Since 2016, Danita has been building her Vancouver Island team of educators and volunteers to provide services for families who have a loved one living with mental illness.  To better serve families and meet the needs of the communities, she liaises with mental health service providers in the region and provides direct family support, education and advocacy for families in the Cowichan Valley.

To connect with Danita and to find out more about these services, call 250-709-2985, toll free at 1-888-888-0029 or email vimanager@bcss.org

When she’s not working, Danita loves to travel, read for pleasure and watch entirely too much television, while thinking about getting fit and eating right!
