Janet is the new Cowichan Regional Educator and will be serving the Cowichan, Saanich Peninsula and Southern Gulf Islands of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) region. This includes Central Saanich, Chemainus, Duncan, Galiano Island, Ladysmith, Lake Cowichan, Mayne Island, Mill Bay, Pender Island, Salt Spring Island, Saturna Island and Sidney.

As an educator, writer and peer counsellor Janet’s responsibility has been to understand, respect and advocate for those who are experiencing life changing circumstances.

Mental illness has been in Janet’s family for the past thirty years. She knows what it is like to feel scared and not have the understanding or the tools to support my family member.  In the 1980’s there was no community assistance or common knowledge of mental illnesses. Janet’s experience has shown her that through empathy, respect, education and support, families struggling with mental illness can find hope for recovery.

Janet’s interests these days are walking her dog, playing tennis, and working with a personal trainer.  As well, she has been writing a novel.

If you are looking for help and support, you can connect with Janet at cowichan@bcss.org or via phone at 250-466-9073.
