Bio

Melissa joined BCSS in July of 2017 and brings more than ten years of experience working with people facing mental health and substance use issues. Drawing upon her experiences in psychiatry, working with marginalized youth, and early psychosis intervention, Melissa will help provide a reason to hope for families touched by mental illness.

Through her role at BCSS, Melissa aims to help communities better support individuals living with schizophrenia through providing education and support services. Melissa’s compassion, empathy and willingness to continually learn from others has helped her establish strong relationships with existing services and programs in the Alberni-Clayoquot Region.

In Port Alberni, Tofino, Ucluelet and surrounding communities, Melissa provides information, support and education to families who have a loved one living with mental illness.  Communities will be able to see her offering Strengthening Families Together First Nations and Strengthening Families Together, courses for family members and friends of those living with mental illness; or partake in one of her presentations or community events in the area.

To connect with Melissa and find out more about these services, call 250-937-1403, toll free at 1-888-888-0029 or email centralvi@bcss.org

In her spare time, Melissa can be found appreciating the waters of the West Coast: swimming, surfing, boating, fishing, snorkelling, and tubing. She values spending time with her friends and family, especially taking camping trips together
