SUMMARY:Prince Rupert Strengthening Families Together
DESCRIPTION:Strengthening Families Together provides knowledge\, support\, and tools for families to better cope with mental illnesses together. \nParticipating families and caregivers from the Haida Gwaii can learn facts about psychosis\, schizophrenia\, mood disorders\, and other severe and persistent mental illnesses; and the impact of stigma. They gain information about treatments\, side effects\, and the impact of substance use. Sessions cover communication skills\, stress management tools\, self-care planning\, crisis planning\, and family advocacy. \nParticipants also learn about the mental health system in BC — including how it works and who is involved\, as well as what happens when a person becomes involved with the criminal justice system. Through discussion and group exercises\, families build supportive connections with others who share similar experiences and learn about how to access BCSS Family Support Groups available across the province. \nStrengthening Families Together – In-Person \n\nSessions are scheduled every Wednesday from May 22\, 2024 to June 26\, 2024\nTime: 5:30 – 7:00 pm\nLocation: 330 Third Avenue West\, CMAW Building (Small Board Room)\, Prince Rupert\, BC V8J 1L4\nFor more information\, kindly contact Reneé Morven (Prince Rupert Regional Educator) at 250-600-0164 or princerupert@bcss.org
