DESCRIPTION:BEHIND THE SMILE – A SILENT SCREAM \nPeople may have worked with you for years. Neighbours say\, “Hi\, how are you?” Smiling\, you lie\, “Fine” — while inwardly — a silent scream. You may have sat beside someone in church for hundreds of Sundays\, and almost no one knew of the turmoil behind your mask. A few knew…and a few others didn’t want to know. Your friends didn’t understand\, and you didn’t want to bother them. The family was falling apart. No one talked about it. Everyone ignored the “elephant in the living room”. \nWhen a family member has a mental illness\, you often don’t know where to turn. \nA friendly family support group for family members affected by mental illness has been meeting in Nelson since 1989. Different people come and go over the years as they require help. We are here for each other. We understand. We will listen…cry with you…or laugh\, and share what has helped us to cope.
