• Who can apply for a Yes2Me scholarship?

  Scholarship applicants must be residents of British Columbia who have been diagnosed with a schizophrenia-spectrum disorder (e.g., schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder). Applicants must be enrolled in an eligible program and submit the scholarship application package.

• What are eligible programs?

  The Yes2Me Scholarship offers financial assistance for a wide range of educational opportunities in which students work to attain a certificate, diploma, or degree from
  an accredited institution, such as:

  • High school equivalency programs
  • Community college, trade or vocational school programs
  • Bachelor or graduate degrees

  Non-credit, online or home study courses are not eligible.

• What is the deadline to apply?

  There is no deadline to apply to the Yes2Me Scholarship Program as we accept applications on an ongoing basis; however, funding each year is limited and is provided to eligible applicants on a first-come first-serve basis.  

• What needs to be included in my application?

  Acceptance of an application depends on the receipt of a completed Scholarship Application Package, including a completed application form, which can be found in the package. You should also be able to provide the following:

  • Proof of residency (e.g., government-issued ID or utility invoice)
  • A completed personal reference form from a professional such as a doctor, a mental health professional, a teacher, or an employer. This form is also found in the package.
  • A letter describing career and study goals and why the Eligible Program was selected; the applicant’s experiences and how they have learned to cope with a mental illness may also be included. Applicants must include the name of the educational institution they plan to attend and the specific courses/programs they are applying for. The letter should be typed and be no more than three double-spaced pages.

  Applications are non-returnable to the applicants. Only the award winners will be notified. Scholarship cheques are made payable to the applicant’s chosen accredited eligible institution (i.e., college, university, trade school or recognized educational institute) for the program. Upon receipt of enrollment confirmation, they will be mailed to the eligible institution at the address identified on the application form.

• Can my information and name be kept confidential?

  All information submitted in the Scholarship Application Package is for the selection committee only and will be kept confidential. If you want to keep your name confidential as well (i.e. the selection committee should not share your name anywhere, such as in a list of scholarship recipients, etc.), please specify it in your application letter.

• How do I submit my application?

  You can choose to submit your completed Scholarship Application Package in one of the following ways:

• Will I be notified regarding my application status?

  Successful applicants will be notified via email. If you have any questions, please email scholarship@bcss.org.

• How will I receive the money?

  Recipients do not receive the money directly; cheques will be sent to the educational institution they’re attending.

• What if I’m not able to continue my education?

  If an applicant cannot start their program as planned, please email scholarship@bcss.org to discuss the situation.

  If an applicant decides that they no longer want to continue with their schooling, they must complete the refund process with their chosen school and the money must be returned to BC Schizophrenia Society.
