The BC Schizophrenia Society (BCSS) launched its annual fall giving campaign in November with the goal of raising funds to support individuals, families, and caregivers affected by schizophrenia and serious mental illness.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the campaign raised over $125,000, surpassing our goal and becoming one of our most successful fundraisers to date. Your support allows us to continue our essential work on the front lines, such as:
- Offer vital programs and services for families and youth
- Provide education to reduce stigma and help families access better care
- Fund research focused on understanding schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders; helping improve treatment and care now and in the future

This year, BCSS board member Rebecca shared the story of her son Nolan. After a serious bike accident, Nolan began experiencing serious mental health challenges. High-potency THC use made his symptoms worse, eventually leading to psychosis and hospitalization.
Nolan and his family later received support through the Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) program. But many families facing similar situations do not have the same support. Mental illness can appear suddenly and without warning. When it does, families are often left confused, unprepared, and feeling alone.
For the tenth consecutive year, Chris Sandy, a former BCSSF board director and dedicated donor, has generously matched donations up to $10,000, which is a testament to the spirit of generosity that drives our mission forward.
As we look back on this year’s campaign, we want to sincerely thank everyone who gave. Thank you for standing with us and believing in our mission. Because of you, we can continue strengthening our programs and services and supporting families across British Columbia as they face mental illness with hope.
