PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY

The purpose of this study is to compare two non-invasive neurostimulation techniques (ECT and MST) in the treatment of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

This study is open to adults aged 19 or above who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder and have not responded to at least two medications. Participants must be comfortable receiving brain stimulation treatments under general anaesthesia.

WHAT IS INVOLVED

Participants will visit the study site two days per week for eight weeks to receive neurostimulation treatment, with visits lasting around two hours including preparation and recovery. As treatment will require general anesthesia, participants will need to arrange for a ride after each treatment. Participants will be asked to complete clinical assessments, questionnaires and cognitive assessments before and after the treatment.

This study also involves regular monitoring of symptoms and one follow-up visit six months after the final treatment.
