Preliminary Investigation of Psychometric Properties of a Scale to Assess Compensatory Cognitive Strategies in People with Psychiatric Illness (Study Number H24-01328)

Study Summary

The purpose of this study is to explore compensatory cognitive strategies that people diagnosed with mood and psychotic illnesses use in their daily lives. Compensatory cognitive strategies are techniques people use to help overcome cognitive difficulties. These can include electronic devices, memory aids, or organization techniques. This study seeks to evaluate the Compensatory Cognitive Strategies Scale (CCSS), initially created for multiple sclerosis patients, to determine its effectiveness for those with psychiatric illnesses.

Eligibility

The UBC Mood Disorders Centre is seeking adults diagnosed with Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, or Bipolar Disorder to participate in a cognitive research study. Subjects may be eligible if they are:

• 19+ years old
• BC resident with Personal Health Number (PHN)
• Proficient in English
• Currently clinically stable
• No history of major neurological disorder
