Option 1

Date: September 19, 2024

Timing: 6:30-8:00 pm

Where: Virtual via Zoom

Keynote: Dr. Mahesh Menon

Topic: Update on Cognitive Remediation

Sponsor: AA Pharma

Dr. Mahesh Menon is the Clinical Lead for the BC Cognitive Remediation Training Advanced Practice, Psychologist at UBC Hospital for the BC Psychosis Program, and Clinical Associate Professor for the Department of Psychiatry in UBC. In October 2021, Dr. Mahesh Menon gave us insight into cognitive losses related to schizophrenia and the therapies that exist to address that, including Cognitive Remediation Therapy.

Since then, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions jointly funded a pilot project to roll out cognitive remediation across BC. Cognitive Remediation Training (CRT) is an intervention aimed at improving domains of cognition such as attention, memory, planning, and more, with the goal of helping improve daily life function. This pilot allowed VCH to develop CRT Advanced Practice and pilot sites in each health authority whereby his team could create pilot sites and train clinicians across BC to deliver cognitive remediation.

Dr. Menon is back this September to give us an update on the results of the first year of the pilot project.
