    Volunteers

The British Columbia Schizophrenia Society and the MIND Foundation are volunteer-based organizations dedicated to helping families cope with serious mental illness. For over 20 years our dedicated volunteers have assisted us in providing support to families, educating communities about mental illness, raising funds to increase awareness and promote research into the causes of schizophrenia, and advocating for improved services for people with mental illness. If you or someoney you know wish to support our work, you can also donate online to BCSS / Mind Foundation here.

      Family Support Buddy Program

The program matches volunteers with persons who are family members of persons with a serious and persistent mental illness. The volunteers, who are also family members of a person with a mental illness, provide peer listening and some information during a weekly phone call or visit. The program is now underway in selected regions of BC and is being looked at for implementation as far away as New Zealand.
